Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (90 degrees) as Adjunctive Therapy in a Three-year Period

In the present retrospective study clinical data of 90 degrees SLT during a 3-year period was collected. SLT with 25 laser effects on 90 degree of trabecular meshwork was performed in 76 eyes of 76 patients. The time interval between the laser treatment and the loss of IOP control was analysed with Kaplan-Meier survival analysis. Influence of the exfoliation, the pigmentation of the trabecular meshwork, the topical medication and the previous ALT and SLT treatment on the result of SLT were analysed.
It was found that the 95% confidence interval of the duration in which the IOP had been regulated after a first-time SLT was 196 to 297 days. Repeated SLT had similar duration of IOP regulation as the first-time SLT. The first time SLT was more effective in patients with equal or less than two topical medications. The age, the previous ALT, the existence of exfoliation or the pigmentation of the trabecular meshwork did not influence the period of IOP control after the first time SLT. It was concluded that the SLT was effective as adjunctive therapy. The repeated 90 degrees SLT provided similar duration of IOP control compared to first-time SLT.
