Purpose : To describe a new illumination system for bimanual vitrectomy without endoillumination that combines a multicoated contact lens and slit-beam attached to a surgical microscope VISULUX? Methods: We combined slit-beam illumination with a multicoated contact lens and performed vitrectomy for eye with retinal pathological disease. Results: The multicoated contact lens enabled elimination of light reflection from the lens surface caused by slit-beam illumination. This combination provided a clearer retinal image than slit-beam illumination alone. Conclusion: Combining slit-beam illumination with a multicoated contact lens can provide a brighter image of the fundus without glare, and it is a useful technique for bimanual vitrectomy.
