A number of pharmacological agents are known to be associated with retinal toxicity. In view of the potential retinal toxicity caused by these agents, routine ophthalmic screening and monitoring has been recommended especially in high risk patients since prompt recognition and cessation of therapy may prevent further development and progression of toxic retinopathy. Since early retinal toxicity is frequently without clinical sign and patients are usually asymptomatic, the use of multifocal electroretinography (mfERG) may provide a valuable tool as an Objective and reliable means for evaluating drug-associated retinal dysfunction. This presentation aims to provide an overview on the application of mfERG in the assessment of retinal dysfunction associated with various systemic and ocular pharmacological agents.
