Peking University Eye Center, Peking University Third Hospital, Beijing, China Although in China the prevalence of primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG) is high, primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) is more common than PACG. Intraocular pressure (IOP) monitoring is important for glaucoma patients. The use of Goldmann tonometer, a reference standard, should be promoted in China, especially in primary hospital. By now, EMGT, CIGTS and AIGS provided a reference to monitor IOP for POAG patients.
However, the eyes of the Chinese people have their own characteristics and evidence-based study is needed to help setting target pressure for Chinese patients. For PACG, a common type of glaucoma in China, laser peripheral iridotomy (LPI) is the main therapy. Monitoring IOP after LPI should include the assessment of IOP and the chamber angle in darkness.
