In recent years, several numbers of new technologies and sophisticated ideas have been introduced into the fields of glaucoma diagnosis and evaluation. For the Heidelberg Retina Tomography, new glaucoma diagnosis algorithm, named "Glaucoma Probability Score", in which manual drawing of the contour line of the optic disc is no more necessary, has been available. Moreover, a new system named "Enhance Corneal Compensation" should improve the performance of GDx. Regarding optical coherence tomography (OCT), a newly introduced technology, spectral-domain OCT (SD-OCT), can be one of the most powerful and sensitive tools for evaluating the thinning of the retinal nerve fiber layer and/or enlargement of the optic disc cupping. Three-dimensional remodeling of the intra-retinal structures can be obtained using SD-OCT due to its much faster data acquisition and improved image resolution compared to the existing time-domain OCT. For examples, early changes of glaucoma in the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) can be easily recognized using three-dimensional mapping of the RNFL thickness determined by SD-OCT. In this presentation, some of the new advances in glaucoma diagnosis will be summarized.
