The management of surgery and the complications on non-magnetic intraocular foreign bidies in posterior segment

Objectives: To summarize vitrectomy effects and management of the complications of ocular foreign bodies in the posterior segment.Methods 23 cases with foreign bodies in the posterior segment with vitreous surgery followed from 6 month to 3 years.The procedure was by pars plano vitrectomy with special forceps,retinal photocoagulation and inert gases or silicone oil filled were almost managed.The visual outcome and fundus changes were studied.
Results:The foreign bodies in the posterior segment were successfully removed in all cases.After 6 month to 3 years of the follow-up,the data were shown that the best correction visual acuity of 13 cases improved beyond 0.05,including 8 cases above 0.1 and 3 cases above 0.5.There were 7 cases remained the same and 4 cases decreased in BCVA post-operation.The retinal detachment occurred in two cases after operation and cure with the scleral buckling and vitrectomy.
Conclusions:The vitrectomy is a safe,effective surgery to treat the foreign bodies in posterior segment.The opportunity of surgery was important to save the visual functions and to reduce complications.
