现在临床上植入的可调节IOL和具有拟调节功能的IOL都是基于焦点漂移原则[41]。其平均向前漂移距离产生的拟调节力大多低于正常调节力（3D）时漂移的距离（正常眼大约1.8mm）[44]。眼前段的正常解剖也不允许IOL向前移位2mm，这样将出现诸如角膜内皮失代偿、虹膜色素脱失等一系列并发症。因此，前面所描述的IOL植入后产生的拟调节力仅能降低患者术后对眼镜的依赖。晶状体屈光手术理想的治疗方案为：应用超声乳化术、通过微小切口去除晶状体囊袋内物质[45]，用透明、无毒、生物相容性高、富有弹性的物质填充晶状体囊袋，术后晶状体有像年轻人一样的调节变形功能[46]，但发明这种物质尚需等待材料工程技术的进一步努力。当然，在高科技迅猛发展的今天，我们设想微智能芯片载入IOL也将成为可能，将视近时产生的神经电信号传递给人工晶状体发生相应的变形功能，屈光力发生相应的改变。
