PURPOSE:To measure quality of life(QOL)outcome in myopic patients having LASIK surgery using the the Reforming-Translating Quality of Life Impact of Refractive Correction(Chinese version QIRC)questionnaire and measures self-reported satisfaction(S)with refractive error.
METHODS:The QIRC was completed by 115 consecutive patients treated by LASIK.Information on refraction, uncorrected and best-corrected visual acuity was obtained from physicians records.
RESULTS:Overall QOL improved after LASIK from a Mean±SD of 39.15±4.23 to 41.78±4.76(t1,114=-4.63,P<0.001).Specially,12 of the 20 subscales showed significantly improved scores(P<0.05).Greater improvements S occurred in mild myopia than severe myopia(F(1,115)=1.48,P=0.03).Postoperative people’s satisfaction(S)was more associated with QOL than with changes of refractive error or with visual acuity.
CONCLUSIONS:Large improvements in QOL outcome and S were found after LASIK for myopia in the majority of patients, with greater improvements in mild myopia.
