　　The epidemiology of age related eye diseases in mainland China

　　In the past two decades, several population-based studies about age related eye diseases have conducted in mainland China. The items involved in blindness and low vision, cataract, glaucoma, age related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy (DR). These studies provided the basic data of the age related eye diseases in mainland China, especially for blindness and cataract. But for historic and economic limits, the studies still had some drawbacks by modern viewpoints. Furthermore, with the development of national power and ageing of population, the epidemical data for other age related eye diseases such as glaucoma, AMD and DR, should be paid more attention.
