Purpose:Tocompare surgical outcomes of Phaco and SICS in cataract patients.
Method:96 cataract patients were randomized to Phaco or SICS group.Uncorrected and best corrected visual acuities, corneal astigmatism were evaluated at pre-op,1-day,2-week,1,3,6,and 12 months.
Results:At 3-month follow up,the mean UCVA was 0.32±0.31,0.25±0.23,0.27±0.26 for Phaco group and 0.27±0.21,0.27±0.23,0.26±0.31 for SICS group at 2-week,1 and 3-month respectively with o significant difference between two groups.SICS group showed greater corneal astigmatism with 1.60D±0.76D compared to Phaco group at 0.93D±0.63D(P=0.001).Mean SIA were 0.70D±0.56D and 1.56D±0.59D for Phaco and for SICS group,respectively(P<0.0001).3 subjects reported PCO in SICS group.
Conclusions:Both Phaco and SICS are effective for visual rehabilitation.SICS produced significantly greater corneal astigmatism and SIA than Phaco.SICS had more opportunities to develop PCO postoperatively.
