PURPOSE:To assess the feasibility of Microphakonit in hard cataracts.METHODS:A randomized prospective study of 136 senile cataract cases was conducted.Phacoemulsification was performed using Microphakonit technique.Study parameters were effective phacotime(EPT),surgical time, amount of infusion solution used, presence of wound burn, degree of immediate postoperative iritis, surgical reduced astigmatism..RESULTS:The mean EPT was 20.3 s with an average ultrasound used of 29.6%.The mean operating time was 13 min and 21 s.There were no cases of thermal burn;Twenty nine suffered postoperative iritis 2+,which resolved within 1 week on topical steroids,There was a 11.5%reduction in the corneal endothelial cell count..The surgical induced astigmatism was0.51±0.33D.The best corrected visual acuity were 0.81±0.33 and 0.84±0.21 one week and one year postoperatively.CONCLUSIONS:Hard cataracts of N3 or more could be safely removed through 0.7mm incisions using Microphakonit technique. |
